Short turn skiing like a pro

Crucial steps for good start

Important to already know basics of skiing and parallel turns. For beautiful short turns we need advanced balance, rhythm and coordination skills.Classic stance(not to wide) like on video.

1. Upper body looking downhill

The upper body is looking to the valley at all times, skis are turning under a stable upper body.So upper body stays stable and centred, we are turning with legs and feet.  Look forward downhill and not to your ski.

2. Speed control

We control speed by shape and rhythm of turns, overall speed by skiing short turns is constant.

3. Start on a nice blue slope

Start slow and build up, so we learn in optimal way. Before first turning get some speed. If skier has to low speed at first turn ski will stop and there will be no more power for next turn. When we can connect few turns it means our skiing speed is optimal. With to much speed it is gonna be hard to hold constant rithm of turns.

4. Short but powerful pressure on ski

Like in classic parallel ski turns we are powering/pressing outside ski more. Turning basics are staying the same just the all phases of turn are much shorter so we need advanced balance, edging and sliding skills. We are pressing to ski harder but for a shorter time.

SHORT TURN FOR ANY SLOPE

   slopes and shapes

  • Blue slope
  • –shape like banana to get speed
  • – more in fall line
  • – less frequent turns
  • – good for start and easy
  • Steep slope, red or black
  • – c shape of turn/more turning for speed control

TIME FOR PRACTISE

Most useful exercises

To get in the flow we have many exercises. My favorite fenster/window, just to take poles with tips looking up, hands forward  and looking trough window. Hands are peaceful and all focus is on leg movements. Some more complicated are in video too so you can check it out.

This is one of the simplest, and best, videos on building your turn technique step-by-step that I've ever seen. I'm an advanced skier and I keep going back to these exercises to improve. THANKYOU!
